Transnational Cooperation for Sustainable Nature Conservation – Selected Balkan States on their Way to Europe

A new project “NatuRegio_Balkans” started at the Alfred Toepfer Foundation F.V.S. in cooperation with the Alfred Toepfer Academy for Nature Conservation (NNA) in November 2013. This project offers 16 trainee positions to young professionals (not older than 40 years) working in nature conservation, protected area management and sustainable regional development in selected Balkan States (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia).

The project offers a vocational training programme for the selected trainees, which consists of six seminar weeks, divided into:

Introductory Workshop (1 week Gut Siggen in Germany – 3rd -10th May 2014)
Excursion Seminar (1 week Camp Reinsehlen Germany, 2 weeks at selected best-practice examples in Germany – 11th – 31st May 2014)
Networks & Projects Seminar (1 week in a target country – 5th – 12th July 2014)
Future Workshop (1 week at Gut Siggen in Germany – 21st – 28th February 2015)

Workshops, lectures and field trips to best-practice examples will give insight into nature conservation and sustainable regional development. The training programme focuses on skills like professional English, project management and EU acquis and legislation related to European nature conservation policies next to other related topics. Besides the vocational training an intensive exchange of experiences and cross-border networking of participants and experts will be supported.

The crucial part of the training is the implementation of small nature conservation projects in the target countries by the trainees. Each trainee will develop an idea for an own project and subsequently to a successful application for a small grant implement it, supported by an international project team. Transnational projects by project teams will be encouraged. The trainees’ individual project period implementation phase is scheduled 1st August 2014 – 31st January 2015.

After successful application all travel and subsistence costs of the trainees participating at the TRAINING PROGRAMME of 4 weeks in Germany, the NETWORK & PROJECTS SEMINAR for 5 days in one of the target countries and the FUTURE WORKSHOP for 1 week in Germany will be paid by the Leading Organisations. No salaries can be paid for the trainees.
