Under the patronage of The President of the French Republic Mr François Hollande, The First Rencontres André Le Nôtre, Conference, 1, 2 & 3 July 2013, Versailles (France)
Call for Papers
“The humanity of the garden: from gardens to territories”
The Rencontres André Le Nôtre conference is in line with the European Landscaping Conference’s initial ambition and is its sixth edition. As part of the European Green Cities network and following the Manifesto “For a Green City” published in October 2011 that claimed that: “gardens and landscapes are essential to our lives and our cities”, The Rencontres André Le Nôtre conference aims to promote careers in horticulture and landscaping and consider their role and responsibility in building a new environment.
Context: the 400 year anniversary of the birth of André Le Nôtre
The 400 year anniversary celebrations of the birth of André Le Nôtre (12th of March 1613) is an opportunity to think about 21st century gardens and landscapes.
Issues
At the Cerisy Symposium, it became clear that the strength of the garden is in its position of interface between very different worlds: public and private, individual and collective, town and country, nature and culture…
As such, it carries solutions to address the modern complexity of sustainable development, urban density and identity, and social links. Therefore, the Rencontres André Le Nôtre conference has been organised around four main themes broken down into questions reflecting territorial landscaping and environmental issues.
